Cave Anne de Joyeuse - Camas Pinot Noir Rosé 2016 IGP
Pale powder pink. Rose gold much? Nose of vanilla and pretty strawberries. Nifty sour balance from silky ribbons and fresh / double fresh acids. Ascorbic. Tree pollen. Full Malo maybe?
100% Pinot Noir from Pays d'Oc in the Languedoc. Grown on limestone and gravel vineyards in the upper Aude valley, with a cooler climate influenced by the Pyrenees. Good temperature variation keep this wine ripe but maintain the steely edge and soft color. Says direct pressed, brief, temperature controlled maceration.
The producer has been making wine in Limoux, pre AOC certification, and seemingly has a chunk of land. They produce almost two dozen cuvees, including 11 wines in the Camas range, of which there are also Syrah and Cinsault rosés.
They have taken an interesting middle road on vineyard practices, and practice some biodynamic fundamentals, such as harvesting to the plants schedule, promoting terroir and managing rain water, but truthfully they also subscribe to rational fertilization, and computer analysis to plot disease and minimize treatments. They are aware of the impacts however, and take pains to react accordingly to necessary invasive interventions.
They are certified Environmentally Friendly by the BVQI (Bureau Veritas Qualité International), who act as an ISO-9001 Quality Management System for the growing and winemaking process.
